Microsoft Word supports Gujarati (Unicode) fonts natively. You simply need to install the font on your system first. Once installed, the font appears in Word’s font dropdown immediately.
This guide covers downloading free fonts (including system fonts and Google Fonts), installation on Windows and Mac, and how to type in Gujarati in Word.
Download the Font

Option A: Use a Pre-installed System Font (Easiest)
On most Windows PCs, Shruti (and often Shruti Bold) is already installed. Just open Microsoft Word and look for “Shruti” in the font list. No download is needed.

On Windows:
- Go to Settings → Time and language → Language and region.
- Click "Add a language" and search for “Gujarati”.
- Install Gujarati and add a keyboard:
- Gujarati Phonetic: Easiest for most people (type English sounds and get Gujarati).
- Gujarati InScript: Official government standard layout.
- Switch keyboards anytime with Win + Space.
On macOS:
- Go to System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources.
- Click the + button and search for “Gujarati”.
- Add Gujarati – QWERTY or Gujarati – Transliteration (type English phonetically).
- Switch keyboards with Control + Space (or via the menu bar icon).
